The HR Policy Project 2026
Counting Measures
Safety
The Human Relations (HR) Policy Project was undertaken to create a set of comprehensive and legally compliant HR policy templates to address some of the workplace challenges currently facing BC Public Libraries.
Communities across BC are facing increasingly complex social issues brought on by things like extreme weather events, ever-increasing household costs, homelessness, mental health and addiction – and more. BC Public Library’s directly serve and support people in the face of these challenges.
In addition, Library Directors, along with their Staff and Boards, find themselves having to navigate an increasingly complex landscape of HR laws and regulations.
So, we set out to develop an important resource in the face of these emergent issues.
These are 4 Policy Templates that were developed as part of the HR Policy Project:
1. Accessibility and Workplace Accommodations
2. Disconnecting from Work Policy
4. Psychological Safety Policy (* and Assessment Tool)
*still under development – will be added in September
The HR Policy Project was undertaken by ABCPLD in partnership with the Kootenay Library Federation with the support of the Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs. The Project’s Principal Consultant was Edel Toner-Rogala.
